COMPANY PROFILE
Ethiopia Tannery is a public enterprise originally established under the technical co-operation agreement signed between the governments of Ethiopia and Czechoslovakia on Decmeber 11th, 1959. The tannery is located in Koka by the lake of the same name near Modjo about 90kms South of Addis Ababa on a site of some 200,000 square metres.
The tannery building was completed and started production finally in 1975 with a staff of some 300 locals and 12 Czechoslovakian staff. Initial volumes were approximately 3000 skins and 400 hides daily processed to pickle and wet blue.
A substantial programme of modernisation and continuous investment in plant, machinery and people has been a feature of business development allowing the tannery to be the first in Ethiopia to produce semi finished and finished leather for local and export markets.
The investment programme is accelerating under Pittards' with sums in excess of 8 million Birr annually targeted at new and improved equipment and processes. |
